How Long Do Home Batteries Last? Cycles, Degradation & Warranties
Batteries degrade over time. Here’s what cycle life, depth of discharge and temperature mean for how long yours will last.

A battery’s lifespan is measured in charge cycles and calendar years. Most residential units are warrantied for 10 years or around 6,000–10,000 cycles to 70% capacity, whichever comes first.
What wears a battery down
- Deep discharges (using most of the capacity each day)
- High temperatures and poor ventilation
- Continuous fast charging
- Years of calendar ageing even when barely used
Reading a spec sheet
Look for the warranty "throughput" figure — the total kWh a battery is guaranteed to deliver over its life. Divide by your expected daily cycling to estimate real-world life.
