How Long Does It Take to Charge an EV? Realistic Times

Charge time depends on battery size, charger power and the charge curve. Here’s the realistic picture for home and public charging.

To charge a 60 kWh battery from 20% to 80% at 7.4 kW takes roughly 5 hours — an overnight job at home. The same charge on a 150 kW fast charger can take around 25–30 minutes, but the battery’s charge curve slows things near the top.

The charge curve matters

EVs don’t charge at a constant rate. They accept high power when empty and taper down as they fill, especially above 80%. That’s why "range added in 15 minutes" is a more honest benchmark than "full charge time".
