Charging "levels" describe the power and speed of the connection. The right one depends on where you charge and how fast you need to top up.
Charging levels compared
| Level | Typical power | Speed | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Level 1 (120V) | 1.2–1.8 kW | Slow (4–5 mph added) | Overnight topping |
| Level 2 (240V) | 7–11 kW | Fast (25–40 mph added) | Home / destination |
| DC Fast (480V) | 50–350 kW | Very fast (150–300 mph) | Road trips / public |
What most homes need
For daily driving, a Level 2 home charger is the sweet spot: an overnight charge covers a typical week’s commuting. Level 1 works for low-mileage use but is slower to recover after longer days.
