A 22kW AC charger needs three-phase supply and an EV whose onboard charger accepts 22kW AC. Both are rare in homes — it’s mainly a commercial/fleet spec.

The reality check

  • Upgrading most homes to three-phase is expensive
  • Relatively few EVs even accept 22kW AC
  • Overnight, 7kW already fills almost any need
  • “22kW at home” is usually marketing, not practical
