7kW is the most common home EV charging power. Here’s what it means in practice, install requirements, and whether it suits you.

A 7kW charger is the de facto home standard in many regions for single-phase supply. It adds roughly 40–50 km of range per hour of charging — more than enough for overnight top-ups.
What 7kW means for you
A 7kW charger fills an average EV from 20% to 80% in about 6–7 hours overnight. That comfortably covers daily commuting and most home use. It needs a dedicated circuit and is a typical Level 2 install.
7kW vs higher power
For most homes 7kW is the right balance — 11kW needs three-phase supply and a car that accepts it; 22kW is rarely needed at home. Don’t over-spec unless you actually have three-phase and a fast car.
