Watts measure power (how fast energy flows); watt-hours measure energy (how much you used). kWp is the peak power a panel array is rated for under standard test conditions.
The units at a glance
| Unit | Measures | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Watt (W) | Power | A laptop uses ~60W |
| Kilowatt (kW) | Power (1000W) | A 6kW array’s peak output |
| kWh | Energy | A 10kWh battery stores 10kWh |
| kWp | Peak power rating | 6.6kWp array nameplate |
Why does kWp differ from kW?
kWp assumes perfect test conditions. Real-world output is typically 70–85% of kWp depending on weather, tilt and orientation.
